Paris Gardens Progress update
05 April 2013
Paris Gardens is located to the south bank of the River Thames and is a 15 minute walk of Covent Garden and central London. The development is of part of a 9 and 13-storey building comprising of 253 student bedrooms split between fully self-contained studio units and two-bed cluster units, and offers a 34,000sq.foot ballet school.
GKR have been working for main contractor McLaren since February 2012 providing scaffold and access solutions. As the project nears practical completion the GKR team are working hard to ensure crucial construction works can be carried out by installing a birdcage to the double height reception area to allow high level access for the construction of the internal curtain wall system, providing access to six lift shafts and four riser shafts and providing vast beam support structures to both blocks at first floor level to allow access into the neighbouring car park.
John Maher, GKR’s Senior Contracts manager for Paris Gardens commented: “We have designed and installed a hanging birdcage from the underside of the cantilevered section of the building over the neighbouring properties none load bearing on the car park roof. The birdcage scaffold hangs down from the cantilevered steels complete with bridging beams over to the adjacent scaffold. We had to fully board out the top level of the birdcage to allow the high level services to be installed.”
Paris Gardens is due for practical completion in July 2013.
